10 Ways to Support Land Conservation

Spend a moment to think about the things you care about in the southern Sierra Nevada and San Joaquin Valley. Are you concerned about losing family farms and ranches, rivers and creeks, native plants, wildlife habitat or places to take your family, friends or students? If you answered yes to any of these, we invite you to get involved.
You can help Sequoia Riverlands Trust in a variety of ways:
- Dedicate an oak! Help Sequoia Riverlands Trust conserve and care for critical valley oak woodlands by dedicating or adopting a valley oak in honor of a loved one, family, friends, service club or school. Not only will you be giving a unique gift, but you can feel pride in having helped to conserve, in perpetuity, a majestic valley oak. An oak dedication costs $500, and includes a Land Steward Membership to Sequoia Riverlands Trust and an engraved emblem placed on a tree honoring the name(s) of the gift recipient. Or, you can adopt an oak in someone's honor for $50. Your gift recipient will receive an adoption gift certificate and the joy of helping us preserve the beauty and integrity of the oak woodlands that once flourished in our region. Email us for more information.
- Become an SRT Member: Pledge your support! Your tax-deductible membership to Sequoia Riverlands Trust supports land conservation, restoration projects and environmental education programs that help ensure the legacy of this region’s natural and agricultural richness.
- Volunteer: One of the easiest ways to contribute to the Sequoia Riverlands Trust mission is to spend a few hours a month volunteering: lead nature hikes, assist with SRT events, monitor conservation easements, help with restoration efforts, and assist with daily activities at the SRT office. Contact us for more information.
- Visit Kaweah Oaks Preserve: Open to the public year round, from sunrise to sunset. Explore the 322-acre working ranch preserve that protects one of the last remaining valley oak riparian forests in the San Joaquin Valley and imagine how this area looked 100 years ago. Vist KOP today!
- “No Child Left Inside”: Request that your child’s school include outdoor education in its curriculum.
- Sign up for the Sequoia Riverlands Trust e-newsletter. Stay current on upcoming monthly walks and other SRT news and events with a free subscription.
- Host a house party: House Parties are a great way to let your friends and family learn more about the natural resources and conservation challenges in the San Joaquin Valley and Sierra Nevada, while providing Sequoia Riverlands Trust with an opportunity to sign up more friends. House parties can be as formal or informal as you’d like. You can arrange to have an SRT staff or board member present an inspirational slide show on our organization and the areas we work, or we can provide you with the information to present your own show.
- Support local farms: In order to protect the rich agricultural legacy of our region, consider buying your vegetables, fruit and other victuals from local farmers. Visit your local farmers' market, sign up with a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) or make a habit of stopping at the roadside produce stands. It’s fresher, tastier, more nutritious, better for the economy and better for the future of our nation’s food security.
- Write a guest editorial for the local newspaper in support of Sequoia Riverlands Trust’s land conservation, stewardship, events or youth education efforts.
- Let your legislators know you care about preserving open space and farmland in the Central Valley.
