Homer Ranch

Why it’s unique: With over a mile of beautiful Dry Creek, a significant portion of one of the largest, healthiest and last remaining sycamore alluvial woodlands in the world and extensive blue oak woodlands, this 1,819-acre ranch plays an important role in the large, interdependent natural communities that sustain the Sierra foothills. Serving as a critical wildlife corridor for a variety of wide-ranging species such as resident and migratory birds, mule deer and mountain lion, the ranch provides an important link between dry Creek and conserved land to the northeast.

SRT purchased this property north of Lemon Cove in 2004, from Stephanie and Richard Homer, whose great, great grandparents homesteaded the area in the late 1800’s. To serve both nature and the community, SRT manages the ranch to protect rare habitat, allow for livestock grazing and to provide public education and enjoyment.

What to do: The preserve is not yet regularly open to the public. Check the web calendar for public programs. Parking, an information kiosk, trails and restroom facilities are planned for the future.

How to get there: Located outside of Lemon Cove. From Visalia, travel east on Highway 198. Take Highway 216 toward Woodlake. Follow west one-half mile and turn north on Dry Creek Road. The preserve is located five miles down on your right. Click for Map
