Trails at Kaweah Oaks Preserve

Deep Creek lined by early summer growth
Deep Creek lined by early summer growth

Kaweah Oaks Preserve has four short, self-guided nature trails. Trails begin about 0.5 miles (0.8 km) west of the gateway pavilion and parking area. Allow 20-30 minutes to access each trailhead.

Stop by the SRT office to pick up a beautifully illustrated trail guide (suggested donation $3).  Or pick one up at the nature preserve and leave your donation in the box.

Grapevine Trail
1/4-mile (0.4 km); allow 30 minutes

Features trellises of three-story-high California wild grape vines growing up into the canopies of valley oak trees. Look for ripening grapes in summer and early fall as you hike this trail.

Swamp Trail
7/8-mile (1.4 km); allow 60 minutes

During wet years when the water table is high, this trail boasts a freshwater pond with willow trees and pond turtles. During dry years, when the water table is low, the pond is dry for most of the year. Observe California wild grapes, blackberries, and magnificent Valley Oaks.

Sycamore Trail
3/4-mile (1.2 km); allow 60 minutes

Includes examples of the grandeur of California sycamore trees. Himalayan blackberries and oak galls are common along this trail.

Wild Rose Trail
3/8-mile (0.6 km); allow 30 minutes

Enjoy aromatic mugwort and beautiful California wild roses along this trail. The trail also provides opportunities to observe wild grapes and valley oaks.
