SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT
Lee Wilson Award for Youth Service to Our Environment

Purpose
To encourage and recognize youth service to our environment; provide scholarship funds to further environmental education; and honor the memory of Reverend Lee Wilson, a pioneer in service to youth at the Kaweah Oaks Preserve.

Eligibility
Scholarship nominations are open to any individual or group, whose members are under 18 years of age in Tulare, Kings or northern Kern County. Individuals or groups must have completed a conservation project and/or performed conservation-based community outreach during 2005.

Nominations
Educators, youth leaders or individuals are encouraged to submit a nomination. Nominations should be in narrative form, describing the applicant(s), work performed and the conservation and community benefits gained. Photographs and letters of recommendation are encouraged.

The deadline is March 31, 2006.

Selection
Entries will be judged upon the scope and quality of service. The successful impact of the service in either our local communities or a biological ecosystem will be a significant factor in the selection process. Students and groups of all ages are encouraged to apply and will compete on equal footing.

The Award

A $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to further his or her environmental education. A group award is presented to the school.

The Sequoia Riverlands Trust is a 501(c)(3) community-based, non-profit dedicated to conserving the natural and agricultural legacy of the southern Sierra Nevada and San Joaquin Valley.
